So, after figuring out that Manila, Philippines would be the starting point for my upcoming adventure, I decided to start checking out the city and country I would soon be visiting.

I’ve booked a multi-destination ticket to start my trip meaning I fly into Manila on Jan 20th and then take a second flight to Jakarta, Indonesia 7 days later.

I originally just thought that the Philippines just entailed visiting Manila and heading onto the next country.

Little did I know that the Philippines is so much more than just Manila.   In fact, most people say to not even bother with Manila and to just head out from the city instead and see either the mountains and greenery to the north or the exotic islands to the south.

As I started reading more and more about where to go and what to see and do, it became evident that seven days just wouldn’t even be close to enough time to do it.

I didn’t want to rush through my time there and with seven days I’d literally be in a city in the morning, catch a domestic flight in the afternoon and be in a new city that night.

Which leads to my quandary…

What to do in those seven days?

I clearly couldn’t do everything I wanted to so I had to figure out what I could do without feeling rushed doing it.

So I visited my old friend Google to see what other people had done.   Unfortunately, this just made it worse because I was discovering more and more things that the Philippines had to offer.

After a few days of racking my brain trying to figure it out and literally stressing out over it, I decided to visit a different online site – Kayak.com.

I wanted to see exactly how much it was to buy a ticket from Manila to Jakarta.   Yes, the same ticket I already had I was looking to scrap and then buy a new one at a later date.

Turns out it’s about $120.

So, for $120 I can see everything I want to see in the Philippines and, more importantly, not feel any sense of urgency doing it.   If it took 2 weeks to do it – fine.   Three weeks?   Well, that was fine too.

Just gonna take it easy and play it by ear…

23 days to go!
