I had a plan today and it all got blown to pieces.

A year ago I saw this video:

And I knew I had to visit this city!

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is a Welch city with the longest city name in Europe at 58 characters.

Conveniently it was on the way from Conwy to Holyhead where I was catching my ferry today to Dublin.

I actually booked the night in Conwy yesterday just so I could make the journey to Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (or LLanfair for short) today.

My ferry was leaving at 2pm and the only way to visit the city was to catch the 10:45 train there and then the 12:30 train from there to Holyhead.

I arrived at the train station just before 10:45 and instead of seeing the upcoming train listed on the scrolling LED sign I saw a notice that bus service was in effect today between Junction and Chester.

Where’s Junction and Chester?   I wasn’t completely sure but I figured my city of Conwy was in the middle of them.

Dammit!

I immediately got into stress mode and ended up reluctantly walking all the way over to Junction station which was about 20 minutes away.

Long story short I missed out on visiting Llanfair and ended up taking the later train all the way to Holyhead.

The kicker was that the bus notice wasn’t even relative and apparently was just being displayed at all the stations on the route and my 10:45 train actually came and went without me.

Sonabitch!

Oh well.   First world problems.

Four hours later I was in Dublin.

How did I spend my first night in Dublin?

Well, it involved some Irish Lamb Stew…

I’ll be here in Ireland for just under two weeks and I have some pretty cool adventures lined up so buckle your seat belts – this trip is about to become awesome again…
