I arrived back in Buenos Aires early this morning after a long day yesterday capped by a 3 1/2 hour flight delay.

Since I only went to bed at 5:30am, it wasn’t until noon when I finally got on with today.

Today is the last full day of this trip as I’ll begin my journey home tomorrow evening on the first of three flights.

I won’t lie – this last stretch of days including today and tomorrow all kind of seem anti-climactic.

It’s like I’m kind of in a daze and just going through the motions til I get back home.

It feels like for all intents and purposes, this trip ended when the ship docked back on land.

So, with that in mind, not a hell of a lot happened today but let’s talk about it anyway…

One last Brooklyn sandwich

There was one thing I was happy to be able to experience again being back in Buenos Aires and that was getting a taste of the best sandwich ever.

A couple of weeks ago I visited Il Mandorla, a dedicated gluten free restaurant, and tried their Brooklyn sandwich.

Served between 2 slices of pumpkin loaf is pulled pork, coleslaw, and pickles.

And, like I said, it’s the best sandwich I’ve ever had.

I even sung it’s praises both here on the blog and on the “Find me GF” app for celiacs like myself.

Smiling from ear to ear, I entered the restaurant and found the same guy working there again.

He doesn’t speak English and I don’t speak Spanish but we communicate with Google Translate.

I told him I was back after two weeks in Antarctica and he told me that ever since I left my review, Americans have been coming in non-stop asking for the Brooklyn.

I was taken a bit aback.   Did I really have that kind of pull to get people into this place?

Anyway, it was a nice ego boost for sure.

The sandwich, as always, was amazing and if I ever do find myself in Buenos Aires again, I shall return.

Upload, Download

With real internet again here at the hostel, I spent the afternoon using up major bandwidth on it.

While I was uploading over 1250 photos and videos from Antarctica, I was also downloading all the TV shows and YouTube videos I had missed while I was away on the ship.

I’m actually surprised I didn’t blow up their internet cause I was certainly trying my best.

Thoughts on dinner

For the last few trips I’ve been going all out for my last dinner.

I’ve had an 8 course meal in Munich, an uber expensive meal in Zurich, a gastronomical journey in Copenhagen, and an Icelandic multi course meal in Reykjavik to name a few.

This trip was no different as I had booked a 14 course meal at Fogon Asado here in Buenos Aires for tonight a full five weeks ago.

The price tag was a whopping $235US which is about $320CAD.

And I…

Cancelled the booking a couple of days ago.

Let me explain why…

Ever since my conversation with Angel, my room attendant on the ship, I’ve kind of looked at the dinner very differently.

Here I was, a guy spending 10k on a trip of a lifetime, while this man was humbly changing the sheets with a smile while sending back all his hard earned money back home to his family.

All of a sudden this 14 course dinner just didn’t sit right with me anymore.

Add to that, that essentially I had been eating like a king 3 times a day on the ship and, well, I wasn’t as enthused to sit down to a really expensive meal.

I decided that day that I would cancel my booking and use some of those proceeds to tip the people who took care of me on the ship a bit better.

It just seemed like the right thing to do.

So, tonight there was no 14 course dinner.

Instead, I went back to Campobravo, the gluten free restaurant I visited on my first night in Buenos Aires.

It was a nice relaxing, simple dinner on the patio overlooking the water.

It was the perfect ending to what was also a relaxing, simple day.
