My most recent trip to Western European countries was dominated by credit cards.

There were credit card readers everywhere.   In stores, on buses, in restaurants – everywhere.

Hell, they even took credit card payment for the 50c to use the public toilet.

In fact, there were actually places that explicitly said they only took payment by credit card and not cash.

Well, it’s time to play the UNO Reverse card.

This upcoming trip is very cash centric.   It’s actually the complete opposite of my previous trip.   Credit card payments are few and far between and cash is, indeed, king.

Not only that, but I’ll end up using 7 different currencies while I’m there.

Turkey
Lira
Romania
Leu
Bulgaria
Lev
Macedonia
Denar
Albania
Lek
Kosovo
Euro
Lichtenstein
Swiss Franc

It’s all good though.   I actually think I was a little spoiled on my last trip with being able to use my credit card all the time.

It’s time to get back to my roots.   Get back to true backpacking.

Haggling prices and paying cash while trying to figure out what the currency exchange rate is for that new currency you’re using.

Ah, fond memories.

Time to make some new memories…

33 days to go!
