From the moment I returned from my last trip a month ago, the countdown clock has been running til my next trip.

After not traveling anywhere for five years, I’m actually going on two trips this year.

In fact, from here on out, I’ve committed to going on two or three trips each year exploring new places and going on new adventures around the world.

Balkan Trip 2023

This upcoming trip will take me to the Balkan countries in the southeastern part of Europe.

Over the course of 6 weeks I’ll be visiting the following 7 countries:

Turkey
Romania
Bulgaria
Macedonia
Albania
Kosovo
Lichtenstein

And, yes, I know Lichtenstein isn’t anywhere close to the Balkans but I’m going to visiting it on the last day of my trip as I head over to Paris where I’ll be flying home from.

I couldn’t be more excited to go to this part of the world.   Not only do I prefer the vibe of the older, less touristy cities and countries but I’ve actually planned to go to the Balkans three previous times and each time I ended up not making it.

Attempt #1: Euro Trip 2013

Way back 10 years ago, my original Euro Trip 2013 was supposed to be a 7 month adventure taking me to every country in Europe.

However, after 3 months of traveling I just wasn’t feeling it anymore and wanted to come home.   I literally made the decision to come back home on a Wednesday and I was back home by Saturday – it was that quick.

Well, at the time I decided to cut my trip short I was in Montenegro and the next leg of my trip was, you guessed it, into the Balkans.

Attempt #2: Euro Trip 2017

In 2017 I was back in Europe and once again I had to cut my trip short.   I had traveled through Paris on to the UK where I visited England, Ireland, and Scotland.   From Scotland I had a flight booked to take me into the Balkans.

However, during the last few weeks of the trip I was experiencing excruciating pain in my right leg.   I hobbled along everywhere and well, frankly, it just isn’t any fun traveling with a bum leg.

So, again, I rebooked my flight home and would have to save the Balkans for a future trip.

Attempt #3: Balkan Trip 2020

I mean, hell, this trip has the frickin word “Balkan” in its’ title!

Ah, yes, but it also had the word “2020” in the title and we all know how that year ended up.

I had the trip all planned, flights and hostels booked and I was ready to go.

The trip was supposed to start in mid April and, of course, the world went to shit in mid March so, yeah, the Balkans would have to wait yet again…

The wait is over!

Well, I’m here to tell you, the wait is over.

I’m going to the Balkans in just over a month from now.   The long awaited and constantly postponed trip is finally going to happen.

So, yeah, buckle in – we got some traveling to do!

44 days to go…
